As a consumer, it’s generally in your best interest to cut out the “middle man.” When you buy something direct or wholesale, you can save money, right?
Not always.
In the complicated world of insurance, it’s often in your best financial interest to do business with an independent agent, or a “middle man.” Here are a few reasons why...
Independent agents have access to the most competitive rates
It’s tempting to listen to the catchy TV commercials and “15 minutes or less”-type slogans, but when you get a quote from a direct writer, they are going to come back with one quote from one company. When you request a quote from an independent agent like me, the end result will be multiple competitive quotes from several different companies. When insurance companies work with independent agents, they know that agent is likely gathering several quotes for the customer, so they work a little harder to win the business by offering the most competitive possible rates.
Independent agents work with high-quality companies
Sure, many direct writers will offer you a discount for holding additional policies with their company. But if you “bundle” your insurance policies with a direct writer, are you getting the best quality coverage? Most insurance companies specialize in a certain line of insurance. Bundling your policies with a direct writer might mean that you have good quality car insurance, but you’re stuck with a less reputable company for your homeowners or renters policy.
It’s convenient to handle all of your insurance business in one place
I don’t just sell auto insurance policies. I sell homeowners, renters, boat, motorcycle, mobile home, RV, and business insurance, too. I’m a one-stop shop, and you don’t have to pay me. You pay your insurance premium, and I earn commission from the company. No gimmicks!
Your agent knows you, your financial situation, and whether you place a higher value on quality or saving money
When I know my clients, I can make coverage recommendations that are tailored to their financial situations. For instance, I know how much liability coverage you should carry on your auto policy based on your financial situation and your assets.
Insurance can be complicated
It’s my business as an agent to understand it all and to help you – the client – understand it so that you can make educated buying decisions. Don’t be fooled by the way things work in other industries. In insurance, the agent is licensed by the state and is your advocate. Even though insurance agents are paid by insurance companies, we work for you. We are legally and ethically obligated to put your needs over our own!
If you have any questions about doing business with an independent agent, you can send me an email or reach out on Facebook or Twitter. I’m happy to be your go-to independent insurance agent in Central Florida!
