What Exactly is a Snapshot Device?
Progressive's Snapshot is a device that tracks a few things about your driving habits. The device plugs into your vehicle in the same place as where your mechanic plugs in to diagnose issues with your vehicle. The device will track what time of day you drive, how many miles you drive per day and if you are slamming on your brakes regularly.
Can Using the Snapshot Really Save Me Money?
Absolutely! When the device was introduced to Florida, I tried it for myself. My wife and I
reduced our premium considerably... She saved a little more than me! The Snapshot rewards those who don't drive late at night (midnight to 4AM), brake hard frequently, accelerate quickly or drive a lot. So, if you are a nurse that works graveyard shifts regularly, the Snapshot probably isn't for you.
How Long Does Progressive Track My Driving?
The program has changed a little since it first came out. When I tried the Snapshot, I plugged the device into our cars for a total of six months. I got a discount after the first 30 days of tracking and then I got an additional discount at my next renewal. Now Progressive will still track your driving habits for six months, but they actually give you a discount when you start your policy with them and then give you a discount on your renewal.
The Snapshot device isn't for everyone. People that work late or are driving in congested traffic in Orlando might not be the best fit, but if you do fit the criteria, you might be in for some savings! Another great thing is those savings will stay with you as long as you are with Progressive and keep the same vehicle the device was plugged into.
