It can be a big deal when your child enrolls in college classes… So it’s an even bigger deal when they go away to college! While insurance is probably the last thing on your mind, here are a couple things you should consider before “the big send-off"!
Changes In Your Auto Insurance
If your new college student is moving out of town or out of state, you should be talking to your insurance agent. There are several different scenarios that could either change your coverage or even change how the company rates your student. Are they going to be in a different state? Will they have access to a vehicle on a regular basis? Are they going to be considered a permanent resident of the state they're moving to? All of these scenarios may result in changing your policy in some form or fashion. You want to make sure they are insured properly just in case they do get in an accident, so you know that you are covered and covered properly!
Am I covered?
If your child is moving into an apartment or rental home, you need to know if your liability and personal property coverage extends over to your child and their belongings. If not, you may need to look at purchasing a Renter’s Insurance Policy for them to make sure they are protected properly. Renter’s insurance is inexpensive and can cover their belongings and their liability, too!
After a few questions about your auto insurance and possibly renter’s insurance, you are now ready to focus on making sure everything else is in line for the big move! If you have any additional questions about your “little one” spreading their wings and how it affects your insurance, just send me an email or message me on Facebook!
